February 19, 2021The International Marathon of Rhodes offered personal protection items (overalls, goggles, thermometer, antiseptics and hand and surface disinfectants) to the island's ambulance and its chief, Mr. Charalambos Tsimplekas, actively supporting efforts to ensure public health in the critical hours of the pandemic.
"In the difficult situation that our country and the whole world is experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we wanted to contribute to the strengthening of the emergency medical services that is on the front line of the battle with the invisible enemy to defend the health of all of us. Always oriented towards social contribution, it is the least we can do
to do to contribute to the protection of public health", said the President of the O.E. of the Rhodes International Marathon, Mrs. Marietta Papavasiliou.
For his part, the president of the EAS SEGAS Dodecanese, vice president of the O.E.
of the Rhodes Marathon, Mr. Vassilis Zekas said: "The Rhodes Marathon, whose objectives include social contribution, with its small financial resources, offered personal protective equipment to the workers of the
of EKAB who are fighting on the front line of the Coronavirus response, while giving the message to our fellow citizens to give the fight together
with thoughts to our fellow human beings and those who have to contribute materially to this difficult effort that our country is making in order to overcome this difficult situation with the least possible losses."
At the same time, Mr. Michael Pavlous, member of the Board of Directors of SEGAS, said: "The Rhodes International Marathon for the umpteenth time proves its social character, assisting this time the EKAB with the provision of PERSONAL protection items,
for workers who are on the front line of the fight against Coronavirus, an invisible and insidious enemy of humanity. It is our hope that the global scientific community will address as quickly as possible the current pandemic, which is spreading rapidly across the globe."
Defibrillator for the Volunteer Samaritan Corps of Rhodes
The social character of the Rhodes International Marathon 2019 was expressed
with the donation of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the Volunteer Samaritan Corps of the Rhodes regional branch of the Hellenic Red Cross, which from the very first moment supports the event, playing a particularly important role, as it ensures the health coverage of the race.
After a fundraising campaign on the "Given Gain" platform and on the race website and social media, with the slogan #RunForRedCross, an amount was collected which was completed by the organizing committee
of the Rhodes International Marathon. The money was donated to the Volunteer Corps, which proceeded with the procurement of the automatic defibrillator already in the summer of 2019.
The Rhodes International Marathon will take place on 18 April 2021.
