The "volunteer celebration" of the 9th Rhodes International Marathon took place in a festive atmosphere, held on April 21, 2024.

In a hall of the Blue Bay Beach Resort hotel, the Organizing Committee hosted a dinner for all volunteers (organized teams and individuals), wishing to thank them for their participation in the races and to congratulate them for their contribution to the success of the annual running festival in Rhodes!

The Marathon Organizing Committee warmly thanked all the volunteers and volunteer organizations for their practical and selfless support of the Organization and congratulated them for their excellent work!

"Volunteering is perhaps the most important factor in the success of the Rhodes International Marathon and those who serve it earn respect and recognition from the participating runners.

Their selfless dedication and valuable services contribute to the continuous upward trajectory of the organization and to the provision of high-quality services, both for the runners and for the supported social service organizations. We thank all the volunteer groups and each individual volunteer for their valuable contribution to the realization of the race", emphasized, among other things, the President of the Organizing Committee, Ms. Marietta Papavassiliou.

"In addition to individual volunteers, there are also organized volunteers who participate with volunteer groups. With their presence and their invaluable contribution, they contribute greatly to the success of the event, images, snapshots, statements and information of which will travel to various parts of the world," said, among other things, the Vice President of EAS SEGAS Dodecanese and Vice President of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Vasilis Zikas.

"Nothing would have been successful without the soul of the organization, which is all the volunteers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart," are some of the words of the volunteer manager, Ms. Tharrenis Zannetidi.

The South Aegean Region was represented by the Sports Commissioner Mr. Vasilis Delaportas, who conveyed the greetings of the Regional Governor Mr. Giorgos Hadjimarkos and revealed that he is very moved, because it was the first event he has participated in since assuming his duties.

"The Rhodes Marathon is first and foremost, all of you volunteers. Without you, nothing could be done," he said characteristically. He also congratulated Marietta Papavassiliou for what she has done for Rhodes through the International Marathon.

The greetings of the Mayor of Rhodes, Mr. Alexandros Koliadis, were conveyed by the Deputy Mayor for Communication, Mr. Giorgos Pattas, who congratulated the Organizing Committee, as well as all the volunteers, for their moving effort to place the Rhodes Marathon among the top in the world.

Finally, the president of the Rhodes Hoteliers Association, Mr. Yiannis Papavassiliou, also spoke, stating that he was amazed by what his sister Marietta had accomplished from the beginning, so a family friend, the late George Zaras, a Rhodian expatriate from the USA, gave them the idea of Rhodes having a big Marathon. “We all feel proud, as today our Marathon is famous all over the world and I am sure that the race will become even better and bigger. Of course, all this is also due to the contribution of the volunteers as well as all those who believed in the institution and supported it. As president of the Rhodes Hoteliers Association, I thank you as with your contribution to the race, you are advertising our place,” said Mr. Papavassiliou.

All volunteers received a commemorative medal and a diploma, while they enjoyed the impeccable hospitality of the hotel's Manager, Mr. George Bakas, and all the staff, to whom the organizing committee thanks them.

At the event, a raffle of 45 prizes (hospitality and dinners) was held, offered by the hotel management. Blue Bay in Rhodes and Kiotari!

The next meeting of the Rhodes International Marathon with volunteers and runners from all over Greece and the world will be on April 6, 2025. for the tenth race, which will be an anniversary race and has been renamed TUI Rhodes Marathon, as the TUI group is the new title sponsor and distribution partner of the event.

Registrations for the TUI Rhodes Marathon opened for the Marathon, Half Marathon, 5 and 10 km events, on the race's online page https://www.rhodesmarathon.gr/ and is an opportunity for those interested to benefit from preferential prices on tickets and accommodation.

Co-organizers of the race are, the Civil Non-Profit Company MARATHON OF RHODES, η EAS SEGAS Dodecanese, η Region of South Aegean and the Municipality of Rhodes-DOPAR. Also, the race is supported by the Dodecanese Chamber of Commerce, the Rhodes Hotel Association and the Museum of Modern Greek Art of the Municipality of Rhodes, while it is under the auspices of EEA. It is carried out with the certification of the SEGAS and the International Road Marathon Federation AIMS, on an excellent coastal route that "runs" through the most important sights of Rhodes.
