International Marathon of Rhodes

The Rhodes International Marathon has been held since 2014, having evolved into an institution. The race was inspired by the late George Zaras, a Greek-American expatriate from Rhodes. Together with Marietta Papavassiliou, President of the Organizing Committee and the American super-athlete and author Wayne Kurtz, he designed a marathon route that is now a benchmark for the global running community.

It is a coastal route next to the walls of the Medieval City with a view of the Aegean Sea, 42,195 meters next to the endless blue sea, a unique experience for every runner. A sporting event of global appeal, designed to make the most of the unique cultural and natural setting of the island of Rhodes.

Run next to the walls of the Medieval City

Every year, athletes from at least 50 countries have the opportunity to run a unique circular coastal route. The course is flat, with spectacular views of the Aegean Sea and runs along the coastline and walls of the Medieval City of Rhodes, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Our strength, our people

The warm atmosphere, created by all the participants, the organizers, the hundreds of volunteers, the public and the athletes, gives the Rhodes Marathon an intimate, personal touch. The medal, which represents the head of the god Apollo the Sun of Rhodes and the branded official T-shirt are the clue of the event.

In 2020, due to the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic and official restrictive measures to curb the spread of the disease, the race was cancelled. In 2021, due to the pandemic again, the Rhodes International Marathon was held digitally. More than 2400 runners from 44 different countries around the world took part in the 1ο Rhodes Virtual Marathon.
