Huge success was the <\/span>International Marathon of Rhodes<\/b> which took place for the sixth time on the \"Emerald Isle\" and broke all records.<\/span><\/p>\n

The most important record is the number of participants, as the runners in all events touched the <\/span>4,000 people<\/b>, the largest number in the history of the event. The second record relates to international participation, as the following were represented in the race <\/span>47 countries<\/b>, confirming its international character and the fact that it is a leading sports tourism event.<\/span><\/p>\n

Record also by the winner, the Kenyan <\/span>Bernard Chirchir<\/b> with a 2:29:53 performance which is the <\/span>best ever recorded in Greece in 2019<\/b> in all the Marathons. \"<\/span>I am very happy about my victory. It's my first marathon, the course is very fast, but the wind prevented me from setting an even better time. I didn't have enough time to prepare because I arrived in Rhodes on a Saturday, but I'm happy. I hope to be here next year to do an even better performance,\" said the winner, who was met at the finish line by <\/span>President of the Organizing Committee and Vice-Regional Head of Tourism, Sports and Culture of the South Aegean Marietta Papavassiliou.<\/b><\/p>\n

In women, the first place went to <\/span>Katerina Asimakopoulou<\/b> with 2:57:38 and which said: \"We were a little bothered by the wind, but the event was excellent. It's my first time running the marathon, but the third time I've come to Rhodes. The previous two years I had done a half marathon. I think overall it went very well. This race was part of my training with the goal of doing a better marathon in the future.\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The winner of the Half Marathon was <\/span>Konstantinos Drossos<\/b> with 1:18:26 he said: \"It was my first half marathon, last year I won the 5km and 10km. I am very happy about my victory and my performance, especially considering that I am still in training. The course was great, the race has nothing to envy from marathons abroad. The event was great and I will be here next year for an even better performance.\"<\/span><\/p>\n

In women, the first place in the Half Marathon was taken by <\/span>Mindy Toothman<\/b> from the United States with 1:53:48. \"It was my first time in Rhodes, I can't believe I won. The course was great, by the sea, the people were amazing. I'll be back next year!\"<\/span><\/p>\n

The President of the Organizing Committee and Vice-Regional Governor of Sports, Tourism and Culture Marietta Papavassiliou<\/b>, he stressed: \"\u039f 6<\/span>ous<\/span> International Marathon of Rhodes was a great celebration of sport, culture and tourism. It sent a strong message in every direction that sport unites and that Rhodes is now among the top sports tourism destinations. I would like to thank all the athletes who took part and helped us to achieve record participation. I would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who worked for the race, our volunteers and sponsors, as it was their presence and support that made this year's race a success. I am sure that year after year the Rhodes Marathon will become bigger and better\".<\/span><\/p>\n

At <\/span>Marathon<\/b> attended by the Mayor of Rhodes <\/span>Fotis Hadjidiakos<\/b>, as well as many representatives of the political and sporting world of the Dodecanese, but also representatives of local institutions, clubs and groups. In the race of <\/span>5 km<\/b>, under the auspices of the <\/span>GNTO & the Ministry of Tourism<\/b>, the action #run_for_tourism took place, where representatives of tourism operators and businesses wearing a special T-shirt will run in the race.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also, in the <\/span>10 km.<\/b> in the men's race, Nikos Tsikouras won with 34.17 and in the women's race, Maria Pardalou won with 38.39. At <\/span>5 km<\/b>. first was Nikos Tsidonis with 17.44 and in the women's race Maria Margari with 20.38.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u039f <\/span>Marathon of Rhodes<\/b> organized by the <\/span>Region of South Aegean<\/b>, the <\/span>E.A.S S.E.G.A.S Dodecanese<\/b>, him <\/span>IOPAR<\/b> of <\/span>Municipality of Rhodes<\/b> as well as with the support of <\/span>Rhodes Hotel Association.<\/b> It is held under the auspices of <\/span>Greek Tourism Organisation<\/b> and has been included in the official calendar of the <\/span>AIMS.<\/b><\/p>\n
